LLANDUDNO TOWN TRAIL - 14

Gloddaeth Street

Palladium

The corner of Mostyn Street and Gloddaeth Street, noted passing place and boarding point for the Llandudno & Colwyn Bay Electric Railway (from 1907 to 1956) with its toast racks and open topped trams, officially known as Hooson's Corner from the long established pharmacy on that corner, but also as The Palladium (shown above) after the music hall cum cinema and bingo hall that is now a Wetherspoon's theme pub.

This is also the principal bus stop for very frequent bus services to Colwyn Bay, Rhyl, Conwy, Llanrwst, Penmaenmawr, Llanfairfechan,  Bangor, Caernarfon and many other places in North Wales.

Outside the newsagent's shop between the Palladium and Mostyn Street is a most unusual post-box. It is square and very large in order to accommodate the very great volume of sea-side postcards written every day in the season.

Seilo

Moving along Gloddaeth Street, to this mini roundabout with Chapel Street to the left and Arvon Avenue to the right we come to Seilo, the Welsh Presbyterian Church (above) which is now one of the churches used by Eglwys Unedig Gymraeg Llandudno, The United Welsh Church of Llandudno.

Across from Arvon Avenue is Chapel Street, on the corner of which is Gloddaeth United Church formed by the union of the local English Presbyterian and United Reformed Congregations. The dual carriageway Gloddaeth Street continues westwards passing, almost next door, the Llandudno Museum, and Ormeside Grange (an attractive retirement complex on the site of the former Winter Gardens and Odeon/Astra Cinema) and passes public car parks (on both sides of the road) becoming Gloddaeth Avenue with modern residential property through to Llandudno's West Shore.

The town walk, however, proceeds along Chapel Street and Lloyd Street back to Mostyn Street where the Town Trail ends.
